Scoring
December 29, 2003 @ 1:17 a.m.Scoring--What You Need To Know
~!~Scoring is done out of 200 possible points.
~!~No one is perfect. Thus no one gets a perfect score unless they are just truly, truly awesome.
~!~Scoring is tough. We will say what we think. If we find ourselves wanting to hurt you because your diary is so offensive to us, we won't hesitate to tell you.
~*~Average score is 152/200. Currently, the lowest score is 49/200; the highest is 198/200.
~!~Each reviewer is different. Thus, while we all follow Cielamara's stringent guidelines, we all have unique styles within the reviews themselves.
~!~No one here cares how well you've been scored elsewhere. As a rule we usually don't even look at that...except to see if there are any good review sites we ourselves don't know about yet.
~!~Bonus points are rewarded sparingly.
~*~You go to the Garden if you score above 190. You go the Desert if you score below 100, or if you piss off your reviewer.

How We Actually Score
First Impressions:
These are fairly self-explanitory. This is the initial reaction. What sort of vibe do you give off on first contact?
~*~Username and Title: This is our initial impression of you. What your username is, and what you choose for the title of your diary, says a lot about you. We generally grade more for the username than the title...because some people are HTML-clueless and honestly have no idea how to change their title to something more personalized. 5/5
~*~Thoughts While The Page Was Loading: This is one of our moments to be random, and this is where the reviewers are seen to differ. Some reviewers choose to grade this while the page is loading, as it says--whatever pops into their head when the first images or colors start appearing. Some choose to wait until they get their first look at the full effect of the page. Both are acceptable by Cielamara; be prepared for either. 5/5
(Total of 10 possible points.)
The Starlit-Lily Factor:
This is a big grading point here. The concept behind this is the idea of a truly beautiful, poignant, transcendentalist moment--such as one might find if one were to stop obsessing about the petty things in life long enough to stop and look at something gorgeous and natural, like a lily, bathed in starlight. Picture it. Isn't it stunning? We want to see the same beauty, even if it's of a different sort entirely, in you.
~*~Does Your Soul Shine Through? Can we tell who you are? Do we have to guess and assume things about you? Do you let your real personality shine through in your writing? This should be fairly self-explanatory. 35/35
~*~Are You Observant Of Beauty? This goes back to the starlit-lily thing. Are you so wrapped up in your own petty little world that you can't see how beautiful the world is around you? Are you able to see the beauty in small things? Are you appreciative of what you have? Everyone has been blessed in some way or another--do you know and appreciate how you've been blessed? 35/35
(Total of 70 possible points.)
Layout:
Everyone has their own style, and we usually try to respect that. We try to see the positive and the beautiful in everyone, we really do. But honestly, there's a difference between uniqueness and expressing one's own style, and honest-to-Goddess ugliness. If we think your layout's ugly, and as we tend to be quite picky--especially Cielamara, this site's artist--we will not hesitate to tell you so. What we're looking for is--is it attractive? Is it tidy? Is it put together well? Do the colors go together? Is it cluttered? Does it take forever to load because of unnecessary effects or clutter? Does it express who you are? Is it aesthetically appealing? -20/20
(Out of 20 possible points.)
Navigation:
Navigation is important. You can get really creative with it, particularly with hover effects--Cielamara's favorite thing to play with in her own layouts! However, it's not the end of the world. What we want to know is--can we find our way around? Is it maturely put together? Is it reasonable, sensible, logical? Is it creative in any way? -10/10
(Out of 10 possible points.)
Content:
This is very, very important. This, tied with the Starlit-Lily Factor, is the biggest part of the review. This score will make or break your review. What are we looking for? Well...
~*~Your Content: Here we tell you how much we read, so to let you know whether or not we were really fair in your review. Then, we ramble. We may or may not link to specific entries to illustrate our points. We tell you what we loved, hated, want to see more of, will kill you if you ever do again, thought was great, thought was stupid, laughed at, cried with, was angry about, cherished--what we felt was important. We react to what you wrote, how you wrote it. Often we use metaphors to explain how your writing comes across. Do you write maturely? Do you write with emotion and personality? Can we get a sense of who you are, what your life is like, how you feel about things? We offer advice on how to improve. You can take it if you wish. -70/70
~*~Your Grammar and Spelling: This is important. Even though it's your diary, you should still be writing maturely. We are very hard on grammar and spelling. We haven't had to give negative points yet, but the option is still there. Write like an adult, even if you're only twelve. It seems stupid to do otherwise, quite frankly. -10/10
(Out of 80 possible points.)
Extras:
This should be fairly self-explanitory. Do you have goodies about to entertain your reviewers (Especially Cielamara)? Are they well-organized? Do you have nifty links for us to follow when we get tired of reading your diary and want to go play? - 10/10
(Out of 10 possible points.)
Will I Return?
This is self-explanatory. Do you make your reviewers want to return to your diary? Yes? No? Why?
(There is no score for this category.)
Comments:
Again, this should be self-explanatory. This is if we have anything else we want to say, anything we wish to reiterate.
